Port Elizabeth – Mountain Zebra National Park – Beaufort West – Oudtshoorn – Wilderness – Garden route – Worcester – Cape Town

Day 1: Port Elizabeth
Discover the city with the historic buildings. Or visit Waterfront and the famous Oceanarium.

Day 2: Port Elizabeth – Mountain Zebra National Park (281 km)
Drive north along N2 past the small town of Cradock. Drive on to Mountain Zebra National Park.

Day 3: Mountain Zebra National Park – Beaufort West (395 km)
You leave Mountain Zebra National Park and drive on to Graaff-Reinet. Worth to stop for a short city tour. On your way to Beaufort West there is only one small settlement. You are accommodated at Karoo National Park.

Day 4: Beaufort West – Prince Albert – Swartberg Pass – Oudtshoorn (approx. 205 km; in case of rain via Meiringspoort: 179 km)
Drive along N1/ R407 via Prince Albert Road to Prince Albert. The dirt road takes you over the 1,436 m Swartberg Pass (R328), easy to cross in good weather. You reach Oudtshoorn. In case it rains take the N12 immediately after Beaufort West. This road leads you through Meiringspoort to Oudtshoorn.

Day 5: Oudtshoorn
Day tour: Visit to an ostrich farm, the spectacular Cango Caves, or try the delicious port at Calitzdorp.

Day 6: Oudtshoorn – Wilderness (approx. 83 km)
You leave Oudtshoorn and drive over the impressive Outeniqua Pass – past George – to  Wilderness.

Day 7-8: Wilderness – Garden route
Day trip: Explore the fascinating garden route. Board the „Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe“, visit Plettenberg Bay, or enjoy the Wilderness National Park and its lakes.

Day 9: Wilderness – Mossel Bay – Swellendam – Worcester (approx. 375 km)
The small port and fisher town of Mossel Bay is all about the Portuguese sailor Bartolomeu Dias, who in 1488 first stepped on South African land. See the Dias-Museum and the „Old Post Tree“ where sailors used to drop their messages for back home. Then you drive on to Swellendam. A visit of the former Drostdy, the old manor, is worthwhile. The N15 takes you across the wide Breede River Valley to Worcester.

Day 10: Worcester – Wineland
Day trip to Worcester, an important economic center. Surrounded by almost 20% of the South African vineyards and many excellent wineries. The Botanical Garden presents the vegetation of the South African dry lands.

Day 11: Worcester – Stellenbosch – Cape Town (approx. 110 km)
Drive along N1 in the direction of Franschhoek and on to Stellenbosch. You pass the famous Boschendal winery. Take a stroll through the university city of Stellenbosch with many preserved buildings. Drive on to Cape Town.

Day 12: Cape Town
Day trip: If weather is good, use the day for a tour up Table Mountain. In the afternoon there is time for a city promenade or a city tour.

Day 13: Cape Town – Cape Peninsula
Day trip to the Botanical Garden of Kirstenbosch, the Groot Constantia winery, and the penguin colony behind Simon’s Town, Boulders Beach. Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope are absolute musts! If you want you can also enjoy the sunset behind Robben Island on the Sea Point Promenade.

Day 14: Cape Town – Travel back home, or add-on program
In the afternoon there is time for a shopping spree along Victoria & Alfred Waterfront before you fly back home in the afternoon, or start another add-on program.
