National Parks - Namibia

The Etosha National Park is Namibia’s animal paradise. Etosha means “the large white place”, because in the centre of the park there is a huge salt pan, a flat wide plain of 5000 km2, which glisters in the sun. The park’s elephants are considered the largest ones in Africa. Here, the visitor can find and observe almost all large animal species of Southern Africa, including The Trio of the “large cats” (lion, cheetah, leopard), and many other animal species.
Location: Northern Namibia, 500 km north of Windhoek
Size: 22,000 km2
Animals: Black rhinoceros, black-faced impalas, elephants, gnus, lions, hyenas, 300 bird species
Particularities: Glistering salt pan

The Namib-Naukluft National Park is the largest national park of Namibia. The main attraction is the Sossusvlei area with high sand dunes which impress with their colours and shapes. Further, the plant Welwitschia grows here which can get up to 2000 years old.
Location:
Southern Namibia, about 450 km north of Lüderitz
Size: 50,000 km2
Animals: Springboks, scimitar-horned oryxes, mountain zebra
Particularities: Sand dunes, fourth largest desert in the world

The Skeleton Coast National Park owes its name to the numerous ship accidents occurring due to the fog caused by the Benguela Current. With its landscape, the cooler temperatures, and the fog, the place appears very lonely. Despite its hostility to life the coast provides a habitat for surprisingly many animal species.
Location: Northern Namibia, about 400 km west of Outjo
Size: 16,000 km2
Animals: Desert elephants, springboks, giraffes, hyenas, black rhinoceros, lions, sea lions, whales, dolphins
Particularities: Ship wrecks at the Skeleton Coast

The Waterberg Plateau National Park surrounds the Waterberg, a table mountain in Namibia. The area is known to be very lonely. However, it is the living space of rare, endangered animal species, on the brink of extinction, such as the large sable and roan antelopes.
Location: Northern Namibia, about 150 km north of Outjo
Size: 405 km2
Animals: Sable antelopes, roan antelopes, white and black rhinoceros, buffalos, leopards, 200 bird species
Particularities: Endangered animal species such as sable and roan antelopes
