The province Western Cape is situated between the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the Indian Ocean in the south. Impressing valleys, about 1,000 kilometres of breathtaking rock cliffs and wide sand beaches, semi-deserts like the Little Karoo, the wine yard regions with pastoral small towns: that is what the Western Cape is made of. The characteristic, unequalled vegetable kingdom – called Fynbos – is one of the six vegetal kingdoms of the world as classified by the experts. The first to make the region of the 1,086 m Table Mountain their home were the Khoikhoi (Hottentots and bush men). After 1652 and the arrival of the Europeans, Malians and Xhosa Cape Town became a multi-cultural melting pot. The city has always been an important port and an attractive destination for tourists from all over the world. Cape Town is considered one of the most beautiful cities of the world!

The wine region with its mild climate produces great wines. Many wineries invite tourists to sample their wines. The world-famous garden route with the many holiday resorts passes between the Coast to the Indian Ocean and mighty mountain passes. There you find untouched coasts, strips, endless beaches, and lively small towns. In Oudtshoorn, the capital of the Little Karoo, there is a lot of ostrich farming, while the Great Karoo is all about sheep. Landscape and valuable fossils are protected in the Karoo National Park. The West Coast National Park is a wonderful rest and breeding region for thousands of seabirds. Cape Agulhas is the extreme southern point of the African continent, where the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean meet (not at the Cape of Good Hope!). The coast before Hermanus guarantees watching of the local bald whales (from July to November). The Route 62 is considered the „world’s longest wine route“ – from Montagu through Calitzdorp up to Oudtshoorn. We urgently advise you to take plenty of time for one of the prettiest and most versatile provinces of South Africa.
