South Africa’s most northern province lies to the west and south of Limpopo. The province borders with Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Besides the Bushveldt, a grass land region interspersed with trees, there are many forests with old local trees, plantations with subtropical plants and fruit, and fields for self-catering. In the north, the characteristic Baobab tree is more and more frequent. Most residents of the province are North-Sotho people.

Rock paintings show that the region has been settled in prehistoric times. In the Venda land in the Soutpansberge and in the land of the Modjadji, the successor to the legendary rain queen, myth and legends linger in the air, and the holy lake Fundudzi seems to hold a magic spell. Here, the spirits of the predecessors are part of everyday life. Access to the lake only with permission from the local chief or the priestess of the lake. Dive into the culture and history of the Venda!

In Mapungubwe National Park, a world cultural heritage, archaeological findings tell stories of a powerful empire in the time from 1290 to 800 BC. In Thulamela, the northern part of the Kruger National Parks, you can find the remnants of a settlement from the period between the 15th and 17th century.

Limpopo is a treasure of landscaping, historical and cultural attractions. Still the province is hardly known. This region is ideal for explorers and adventurers. Along the Ivory Route, Off-Road-Fans can discover untouched landscapes following the tracks of the former ivory hunters and gold dealers. In the Tzaneen area, you can visit tea and citrus plantations, or go to the Kruger National Park through the mining town Phalaborwa. Special attractions close to Hoedspruit are safaris on elephant back, and a visit to the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Center where you can watch cheetahs eye to eye.
