Zambia is surrounded by Namibia, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and Botswana. From 1911 to 1964 the land was known as the British Colony of North Rhodesia. As the biggest part of the tropical country lies in heights of more than 1,000 metres Zambia has a moderate climate. Warm and humid from December to April, cold and dry from May to August, and hot and dry from September to November. Temperatures might be very hot in the Zambezi Valley in October. The country has wonderful untouched landscapes, 19 national parks, Lakes and the stowed Lake Kariba. Livingstone is the tourism center, and the Victoria Falls are the greatest highlight of the stay in Zambia for travellers.
